The Citizens Service Bank originated in December of 1967 in Omega, Georgia, as a regulated certificated bank. On April 15, 1970, the Secretary of State approved having the bank converted to a State Banking Corporation, and the South Georgia Banking Company was chartered. The bank operated out of one office in Omega until 1976 when in addition to the Omega office, a Tifton branch was opened in the former Tifton Federal Savings and Loan building on Fourth Street. Late in 1987, the bank expanded, opening another Tifton location, which now serves as the Main Office on Second Street in Tifton. In July 1997, South Georgia Banking Company opened its Supermarket Branch in the Winn-Dixie food store in Tifton. In April 2000, the bank opened its first out of county office in a temporary facility in Moultrie. On December 4, 2000, the Moultrie Banking Center opened their new office at the intersection of the East Bypass and Fifth Avenue in Moultrie. Our newest facility at 2005 Tift Avenue in Tifton opened in July of 2004. As the year 2006 came to a close, the first acquisition of another financial institution was completed with the merger of Community National Bank located in Turner and Crisp Counties. South Georgia Banking Company is an independent, locally owned bank. We feel as a community bank we have the responsibility to respond to the needs of our customers and the communities we serve.
The Bank is a full service financial institution offering a wide variety of banking services targeted primarily to the consumer, small business and agricultural sector of our primary market areas. The primary market area consists of Tift, Colquitt, Turner, Crisp and the surrounding counties. All traditional types of deposit and loan services are offered to the bank’s customers.
